Demolition, backer board installation, thin-set mixing, and tile cutting are messy, high-impact tasks. Thin-set mortar and grout can splatter onto adjacent walls, and heavy tiles or tools can easily scuff, gouge, or nick fresh drywall finishes. \n\nWhat to Expect During the Process:\nWhen tile is installed first, the contractor can bring backer board and waterproofing membranes directly to the edge of the shower or vanity perimeter without worrying about tape lines peeling delicate fresh paint. Once the tile is set, grouted, and properly caulked at all plane changes, your painter can cleanly mask off the newly finished stone, patch any minor drywall dings caused during construction, apply moisture-blocking primer, and roll the finish coats. \n\nThe only exception is applying a ceiling primer coat or a preliminary ceiling topcoat before high-end tile goes up to avoid dripping paint down brand-new stone surfaces.
